For quite some time there have been a lot of rumours and whispers that PortAventura's next roller coaster would be a 4D coaster, however most people were surprised when a wingwalker, a new style of intamin launched coaster was announced
Furious Baco is the €15m new roller coaster opening at PortAventura next June, the ride will be themed to an eccentric wine harvest invention and be set in the park's Mediterrania themed section
The coaster begins with a hydraulic launch, blasting passengers from 0 to 135km/h (just over 83mph) in three and a half seconds, the coaster travels its full 850m course in just under a minute, taking in an inline twist inversion and G forces of up to 4.7g
Where Furious Baco differs from the traditional Intamin accelerator coasters is its new style of train, the seats are suspended on the side of the train, effectively straddling each side of the track, much like the S&S 4D style of coaster however the wingwalker seats don't rotate
The following photos were taken in December 2006, the coaster has really started to come on, there is still a great amount of themeing and landscaping work to do before the opening next summer
