Amazing landscaping, a neatly presented collection of good rides and a large inclusive water park, Six Flags New England is truly the flagship park of the mighty chain
Say to any self respecting coaster geek "SFNE" and they'll probably say "Superman: Ride of Steel" the intamin hyper coaster climbs swiftly up the cable lift alongside the river. The first part of the coaster is an out and back affair as the train lunges up and down the lofty hills, the second half is a twisted tangle of turns and small airtime bumps with a misting underground tunnel thrown in for good measure, it's no mystery why Superman: Ride of Steel is constantly rated as one of the finest roller coasters in the world.
Batman or Dark Knight is a cute little B&M floorless coaster, aww bless, compact by the usual B&M multi-looper standards it still has all the ingredients for a fantastic ride, swooshy first drop, a wonderful giant vertical loop, an exhilarating dive loop and hammerhead turnaround threaded through the first loop, the incredible zero g and the interlocking flatspin finale, Dark Knight is simply all the goodness of a great coaster with no fuss or filler
Often overlooked is Thunderbolt a 1940's classic figure 8 layout woodie, which is still strong enough to hold its own against the modern steelies that make the park famous today
Cyclone on the other hand has suffered at the fate of its many infamous modifications and track redesigns which I think is fair to conclude have killed the ride, leaving it as one big unpleasant headache
While the paracetamol are out, headaches can be induced by riding the Catapult sky swat or Flashback boomerang, ouch. Thankfully the swirling orange spins of Pandemonium or misting white waters of Blizzard River make for some pleasant family attractions
Six Flags New England is a great member of the flags family, the mature landscaping, better than average rides and a world class coaster or two, all go a long way to make Six Flags New England a stand out experience
