West Midlands Safari Park is a fairly substantial drive through safari attraction which has also established a blossoming amusement area alongside the animals
Entering the park gates admission is paid for in drive-through kiosks which includes access to the safari along with the many wildlife exhibits in the discovery trail section of the park, including aquarium, creepy crawly cave, reptile house, hippo lakes, sea lion show, leopards and petrifying twilight cave with free flying bats
The amusement rides require a fair-priced additional charge, you can purchase either an all-inclusive wristband or separate tokens from automated vending machines dotted about the place
The amusement area has a carefully selected collection of family rides, while there is no real themeing as such, everything is very clean and well presented, some of the rides do have African 'styled' queue line fences and accents
Rhino Rollercoaster is the only large model Vekoma junior coaster currently in the UK and provides a kick ass slightly more eventful childrens coaster than the usual park fair, with its rhino train and fun swoopy banked coils
Plonked straight out of the manufacturer catalogue pages are the Twister spinning mouse coaster, Zambezi Water Splash log flume and Wild River Rafting rapids slide which together help to pad out the ride compliment providing pleasant and fairly major attractions
Venom Tower Drop is an odd looking Fabbri drop tower ride despite its smaller size still packs the mean punch of its bigger mega drop brothers. Elsewhere the park has a Huss Pirate Ship, Black Fly frisbee and Tarantula octopus ride
The amusement area has a strong collection of kiddie rides, chair-o-planes, animal carousel and Dr Umboto's Catacombs a fairly inoffensive home made ghost train ride
The safari itself is obviously the main attraction at West Midlands Safari Park and is quite lengthy passing giraffes, camels, elephants, tigers and lions to name but a few. We suspect there's some bleaching agent in the local water supply as quite a lot of the animals are white, including the infamous white lion cubs
West Midlands Safari Park is a lovely day out, while the amusement area may not be the most intrepid it makes a nice bonus to the animal explorations
